What's Pseudo-Disco?

For the fans of Stars, also political twee-pop (you didn’t see that coming), we are dealing with something called Euro-tinged pseudo-disco and God knows it’s exactly what it’s all about. The Ropes from NY are vocalist/bassist Sharon Shy and multi-instrumentalist Toppy. In this sense they remind me of The Kills but much more minimal and don’t take it as a low point. “Clubs In Europe Forever” has simple electro-beat that won’t let you be disturbed under any circumstances. The few elements on the song and the plain thoughtful message, tangled with Sharon Shy’s charming vocals gives the song a totally bearable soothing 3 minutes to spend, without any trouble. No ups and downs and back-beats or Crystal Castles video game effects. The Ropes new EP is due out this month; meanwhile you can firmly entertain yourself with the video.

Next stop, don’t even think about Stars, The Moonbabies, Or the Kills for I want to bring you back (only in mood) to when Kid Rock and all that nu-rap-metal whatever were ruling the galaxy. This next song is so MTV-friendly and don’t usually put such vibrations here but as long as they can bounce you, why not? Let’s un-indie-ize ourselves just for a little while. We indie listeners sometimes need that. I still dance with K’naan “ABCs”. So there’s nothing wrong with good hip-hop. And by the way this band is indie as well, so….!!! Southern X is influenced by Limp Bizkit, Beastie Boys and Management and they come from Atlanta. They’re back with their new hit “Break It”. And it badly starts off with an Appollo 440’s queasy guitar and then the subtle rocking hip-hop starts. Why am I explaining the song here?

Thanks to Natalie Valenzuela and Guy Alwine for recommending the songs. And God! How does this new comment system work? It shows zero comments on the link all the time.
