Yes, there's still talk left unwritten about 2k8, these two works come from that not so far away era…
If you by any chance hear a bizarre homo with harsh make-up and beards singing about "duck people" dwelling around under the moniker Megapuss, it's safe to panic! Because the guy behind that name is a bizarre living being i.e. Devendra Banhart but this time he ain't alone. It was about last year when the weirdo freak-folker decided to record something outside the scope of his puppy fun lovin' world. Chances are you are going to love this record if and only if you love everything freaky about Banhart, since Megapuss is just a surfing interpretation of his lucid dreams. This is when Banhart decides not go any crazier than he is and stick to some Honolulu-friendly palm-trees-oriented good timing vibrations with a little help from his friends Greg Rogove (Priestbird), Fabrizio Moretti (The Strokes, Little Joy), Noah Georgeson (member of Banhart's band and producer), and Aziz Ansari (actor/comedian). And you don't need to worry about what you encounter on the cover art, it's not that Pasolini! This starter tune is the best I found from Surfing.
Moreover, if you haphazardly walk by Times SQ, NY and get stuck on a hefty ad about a guy called Fireman with a very familiar face that resembles one cute guy out of those four guys from Liverpool, don't panic! It's just another name for experiCartney! I mean… the experimental ego of Paul McCartney. Yes, in the 6th glorious decade of his life, the cute Beatle doesn't seem to give up. Back with another collaboration with producer Youth, on a semi-Electronic experiment of Electric Arguments.
Well, not as electronic as described but Paul is apparently working on some stretched out expansive tunes that don't necessarily define pop. Half the songs are almost same ol' McCartney we all know, each having their own diverse taste and the 2nd half of the album is where he sounds more indulgent on presenting his alter ego. Ask me? I'll still stick with the old guy with such a warm and lovely 10:30 AM voice. I don't think McCartney needs experiments, it's not that he ain't good at it. He eventually can become what he aims toward. But it was the Beatles McCartney that I could enjoy out of this disk and "Light From Your Lighthouse" although being studio-painted and crafted a little is still what keeps me going here.
Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr are the only Beatles in the world. And it's not even what I say. It's just a quote from a Devendra Banhart song. Ain't it funny how art coincides internally in one blog post? no!
